Mallory Freeman Recognized for Leadership at UPS

Mallory Freeman (ISyE Ph.D., 2014) was highlighted as a key executive leading technology integration at UPS. Since 2014, Freeman has worked to integrate predictive analytics at UPS. She is currently the company's director of data science and machine learning. While she was at Georgia Tech, Mallory's research focused on how to improve decision-making in health and humanitarian operations. Congratulations, Mallory! 

Pengyi Shi Promoted to Associate Professor

Congratulations to Pengyi Shi (ISyE Ph.D., 2013) for her promotion to Associate Professor with tenure at the Purdue University Krannert School of Management! Her research impacts various real world problems ranging from hospital operations to infectious diseases, utilizing data-driven, high-fidelity models and developing analytical methods to support decision-making under uncertainty in various healthcare systems. Congratulations, Pengyi!

Dr. Fauci Receives 2021 Ivan Allen Jr. Prize for Social Courage

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, received Georgia Tech's Ivan Allen Jr. Prize for Social Courage on March 15, 2021. Georgia Tech President Ángel Cabrera presented the award. Remarks from Dr. Fauci were followed by a panel discussion which included  CHHS Director Pinar Keskinocak, CHHS affiliate Professor Joshua Weitz, and Emory University School of Medicine Distinguished Professor Dr. Carlos del Rio, moderated by Ann W. CHHS Director Contributes to NASEM Committee

CHHS Director Pinar Keskinocak will serve on a National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) committee focused on providing recommendations for vaccine distribution and supply chains in future pandemics. The project, "Addressing Issues of Vaccine Distribution and Supply Chains to Advance Pandemic and Seasonal Influenza Preparedness and Response," aims to examine the challenges experienced in Covid-19 vaccine management and their implications for future public health events. 

   

CHHS Research Director Receives Georgia Tech Teaching Award

CHHS Research Director Dima Nazzal has received an institute-level Curriculum Innovation Award from the Georgia Tech Center for Teaching and Learning. As the ISyE Director of Professional Practice, she is responsible for project-based learning in the department. Dr. Nazzal was specifically honored for her development of the ISyE Cornerstone Design class; she developed the course to fill a design skill gap observed in senior design projects. Congratulations, Dr. Nazzal!

Professor Joshua Weitz and Research Group Continue Helping the Public Navigate Covid-19

Professor Joshua Weitz, School of Biological Sciences at Georgia Tech, was awarded a 2021 Sigma Xi Best Faculty Paper Research Award for his joint work with Professor Clio Andris, School of City and Regional Planning. Their paper, entitled "Real-Time, Interactive Website for US-County-Level Covid-19 Event Risk Assessment," details the methodology which drives their online interactive dashboard. Dr. Weitz and his colleagues also recently published "Forward-Looking Intervals Correctly Link Epidemic Growth to Reproduction Numbers." Congratulations, Dr. Weitz!

   

Professor John-Paul Clarke Serves as Chair of NASEM Covid-19 Travel Workshop 

Professor John-Paul Clarke served as the chair of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) event "Workshop on Flying in the Covid-19 Era – Science-Based Risk Assessment and Mitigation Strategies on the Ground and in the Air." The workshop featured medical experts, infectious disease and environmental science researchers, and representatives from a variety of air travel industry sectors. CHHS Director Pinar Keskinocak also gave a presentation at the workshop. View presentations and recordings at the link above.

   

Georgia Tech Faculty and Staff Honors include CHHS Professors

Georgia Tech's Annual Faculty and Staff Awards recognize faculty and staff for their work throughout the previous year. Congratulations to this year's winners, who have lived out Tech's motto of "progress and service" in their work. Honorees include CHHS faculty affiliates:
